Had an amazing few days in the Tod yurt, very comfortable and cosy yurt, amazing location and the kids loved playing in the river, saw so many stars and kept my oldest up for a while to see shooting stars. So much nature about and we saw badgers, adders, lizards, bats and we think slowworms – will definitely be back
If you love the outdoors this is a quaint, fun and peaceful place. Wear wellies or walking boots and don’t take too much luggage! To get to the yurt you need to walk down a small slope and cross over a rope bridge. It was clean on arrival with a good supply of kindling, firelighters and wooden logs. The decor was beautiful and the bed surprisingly comfortable. The stove heated the yurt well so we didn’t feel cold. We were also able to cook breakfast as there was a cooking stove and pans provided. We used the communal kitchen to charge our phones and make a quick coffee in the mornings. As we had read what to do on arrival and studied the map, we didn’t need to contact the owners for anything. We were left to our own devices which we appreciated as it is meant to be wild living after all! But the owners are contactable by WhatsApp. I messaged before and after our stay and a response was received quickly on both occasions. Thank you for a brilliant stay we will return!
Stayed here for husbands birthday. Met on arrival by the owners, who were very helpful and easy to talk to. We stayed in the Houlet Treehouse and the bed was so comfy. We brought our own bedding as they offer a discount when you do so. Overall a great stay, it’s very back to basics so don’t expect a full-on glamping experience, because it’s not. There’s a fabulous pub approx 25 mins walk away or a 3 minute drive, the Hollybush Inn in Greenhaugh. You must book ahead if you’d like dinner there. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.
Amazing!! Absolutely loved staying here. If you like camping (campfire, outdoors, nature) and home comforts (double bed, wood burner, sofa) then this is perfect. Make no mistake, this isn’t super luxurious – there’s no electricity in the yurt, or running water – and there’s no mobile signal (which was great!). If you can’t manage a day without your Alexa or fibre broadband then this isn’t for you. But if you want a fun, different and adventurous time with your family then book this. We have 3 children (12, 10, 7) they all absolutely loved it! Wish we’d booked for longer. We’ll definitely be going back.
This place is a real hidden gem. We stayed in the Houlet Treehouse Yurt. This had been rebooked due to Covid. We parked up in our designated bay and grabbed a nearby wheelbarrow to transport our gear to the Yurt. I luckily picked the path that didn’t involve the swing bridge. The Yurt was clean when we arrived. It is a simply stunning location. I stayed with my 10yr old son and we were both so excited to stay in a real life treehouse, a truly special experience. Our Labrador came too and she loved the site. The fire pit was great in an evening and the yurt had a large table underneath for cooking on with a gas stove and spare canister. The yurt is fully stocked with crockery, pans and a kettle. It also had a dish and washing up liquid for the dishes, nothing forgotten about. We loved the hammock.
Inside the yurt there is everything you need. I started the fire easily with the firelighters and kindling provided. It kept us warm all through the night too. The best part for us was the bed. It was one of the best beds I’ve slept in and the quality of the bedding and pillows was top notch. It was lovely switching off, enjoying the fairy lights and candle lights when it got dark.
We had access to our own compost loo which was clean and located nearby to the Yurt. We also used the main toilets which were immaculately clean. The shared kitchen area was clean and spacious but we didn’t need to use it with having our own space. The fridge, with your own shelf, is handy for perishables. My little boy enjoyed playing on the swings near the church.
The fact there is no electricity and no wi-fi is actually very calming and allows you to totally switch off. We were very sad to leave and will definitely be back again. We both agreed it was the best place we’d ever stayed.
