We spent a lovely week in Otter Cottage……even storm did not effect us.
Some beautiful places to visit on quiet roads. Everyone so helpful and friendly.
Newton Stewart is lovely with Sainsburys and Aldi on the doorstep. Lots of small shops. A l9vely town.
Unfortunately not a lot of restaurants open at night. We were lucky enough to find The Laird in Creetown. Fabulous place. Most places need you to book.
Wigtown,Port William and Kirkcudbright are places we enjoyed.
My partner fishes but river is low. Luckily Easy a neighbour showed him a Loch 10 mins away and took him to Cree Bridge Hotel for license.
We hope to return and enjoy the area again
This is a lovely, clean and comfortable cottage with everything we needed. The location is lovely with easy access to the town but also lots of walks that can be done from the doorstep or just a short drive away. We were delighted to spot a kingfisher a couple of times from the cottage. The river rose dramatically during a storm but was nowhere near causing a flood. The walk around the RSPB site at Wood of Cree was particularly magical. We stayed for 2 weeks and had a great holiday.
A gorgeously cosy , well appointed , fabulous clean holiday cottage right on the riverbank with lovely views up and down the river as you sip on a glass of wine on your private patio watching the ducks float by. Inside is a spacious living/dining area with a woodburner fire and all the modern appliances expected in a kitchen , patio doors open out on to the riverside patio area where we sat out every night and also had breakfast when the sun was out. The bedroom is cosy with a wonderfully comfortable bed , best sleep Ive had in months due to the bed and how quiet the area round the cottage is, the shower room is well appointed and has a great shower . parking can be quite tight if the other cottages have residents in them but we found no issues getting in and out of your private parking spot. Communication with the owners was really good and Allison was quick to reply to any comments and questions we asked . This is highly recommended and one of the best wee cottages we have stayed in in Scotland.
What a fantastic find! After booking this super little cottage, we were delighted to find on arrival that it was everything we hoped for and more.
Mornings and the sunset evenings were spent outside watching and feeding the ducks on the river, and when we did venture out from this centrally located cottage in Dumfries and Galloway, there was plenty of things to do all within an 30-60 minute drive.
Closer to the cottage are 3 supermarkets and some tasty cafes and restaurants all within walking distance.
This fully equipped cottage is a gem. The owners Allison and Ken have thought of everything and were exceptional in their communications from the moment we had booked their lovely cottage. A definite stay when we come back to Dumfries and Galloway.
Thank you both for a wonderful week in Otter Cottage
We have just returned from a fantastic holiday at Otter cottage. The cottage was amazing the house keeper Billie obviously has a very high standard. It is in a lovely position in Newton Stewart. We were so blessed with the weather to so sat out every day watched the salmon jumping and the daily visit from a heron. The cottage is perfect for a couple. We were disappointed we never had chance to use woodburner because it was to warm. Plenty of walks to do both from Newton Stewart and in the Galloway forest. We did a lovely walk around Loch Trool. Carrick beach a drive away but lovely and quiet beach. Nice places to eat we would definitely recommend House o Hill but you need to book in advance. We will be recommending this cottage to family and friends and will definitely look at returning again
