Beautiful location, homely, clean and cosy cottages with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Would definitely recommend. Teddy the dog was not left out and enjoyed the treats, exploring and making new friends – thank you Liz and Adrian, we look forward to booking another visit.

We had a lovely time away at Hazelrigg cottage. The accommodation was very clean and tidy and had everything we needed. I particularly liked the guest area and thought it was a great addition to the Howscales site. The hosts have made part of the site accessible for all their cottage users and it included things like leaflets, games, toys, puzzles, a washing machine, drying room and extra food for guests. The food had been left by previous guests and included things like cooking oil, ketchup, tinned food, etc. Our property had a private garden but there was also a wraparound shared outdoor space with its own orchard too. The hosts were thoughtful and welcoming and gave us lots of recommendations. They made some yummy shortbread too!

We (3 x friends and 1 dog) had a wonderful week at Howscales Cottages – we stayed in Ravendale.
The reality matched the gorgeous photos on the website and the property was super clean. Having a small fenced off garden (with a gate directly out to the much larger garden which anyone staying is welcome to use) was a real bonus.
Liz and Adrian really go over and above to make you feel welcome and offered so many great suggestions of things to do locally – their welcome email (helpfully received over a week in advance) was packed with so much useful information and their website is also a great resource.
We would happily stay there again.

We spent a wonderful easter weekend at Geltsdale Cottage. The cottage is beautifully appointed, with all the amenities we needed for a comfortable and relaxing break. The use of locally sourced furnishings and art added such a thoughtful and authentic touch.

The views from the cottage were absolutely superb—peaceful, picturesque, and perfect for unwinding. Hosts Liz and Adrian were fantastic—warm, welcoming, and always available for a friendly chat or to help with anything we needed. Their attention to detail and hospitality really made our stay special.

It was a last-minute decision to stay at Howscales, and we’re so glad we did. A truly charming retreat in a stunning setting. We hope to return soon with plans to spend more time at the cottages and exploring more local trails.

Stayed in Inglewood cottage for 2 nights while visiting friends in the area (had to book for 3 nights minimum, but still great value for money). Unfortunately did not get to meet Liz or Adrian on this trip but are definitely booking again so hope to see them next time. Facilities are superb, very comfortable and clean.
