For the price and location (we were visiting Edinburgh for 3 days and it was close to a nearby station in Tweedbank around 6 minutes), so we had no complaints! The place was warm and welcoming, staff were down to earth and friendly. Our room had everything we needed, it was clean and cozy. Upon reading other reviews, it seems people have certain expectations regarding hotels, it isn’t your average modern hotel – we personally enjoyed the old charm the hotel offered, it’s something different. We had breakfast on our second morning, and for £7,50 you can’t go wrong – it’s not a 5 star place, so don’t expect as such and cut it some slack. Only points I could add in was the window was a bit unstable, not many plug sockets, the light in our bathroom (above the mirror) didn’t work, but that’s about it.

We were in for a meal, firstly getting to the dining area wasnt easy for the man I support as there’s stairs. Our meal was nice but I think, personally, in the chilli chicken the onions were too chunky which I picked out. To no fault of their own, we were then bombarded by the pipe band who stood right next to us, they were very loud, used the person I supports walker to lean on and had their bums right next to his head while we were eating. He did however enjoy his scampi.

I stayed at the George and Abottsford Hotel for 2 nights at the end of September.
The location of the hotel (in the centre of Melrose) was perfect for me.
The staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. I really enjoyed the breakfasts served.

We stayed for 2 nights at the G&A. Looking at previous comments, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But bearing in mind that this is a 2 star hotel and obviously not the Ritz, we had a wonderful time. Rooms were perfectly clean, bedding was comfortable, staff was incredibly nice and helpful. Bathroom was fonctionnal, well heated and water was well pressured. Sure, the hotel wasn’t Ikea-furnished or Instagram-friendly, but it is also full of old maps and drawings of Scotland’s wildlife. Restaurant offered decent value for money and offered Live music, which was lovely. And the maze-like structure of the hotel was rather amusing. Overall, being into old charm, we absolutely loved it.

Just popped in for a drink. Lovely bar, nice atmosphere, friendly bar staff. Great selection of red wine by the glass, I’ll be back 😁👍🍷
