Weâve been staying at The Church House Inn in Torver, near Coniston, and itâs been an excellent experience from start to finish. The setting alone is worth the visit, right in the heart of the Lake District, with proper walking country all around and a peaceful atmosphere thatâs hard to beat.
The building itself dates back to the 14th century, and you can feel the history in the walls. It has a real old-world character but without feeling tired or run down. The room we stayed in was outstanding, spotless clean, warm, and genuinely cosy. Everything felt looked after, rather than just maintained.
A special mention has to go to the host, Mark. He has been nothing short of brilliant. He is welcoming, helpful, and genuinely cares about the people staying there. Not the forced politeness you sometimes get, but the kind of hospitality that makes a place memorable. You can tell he takes real pride in what he does and the inn itself.
If youâre looking for somewhere to stay around Coniston, whether youâre exploring, hiking, or just escaping for a bit of peace, Iâd absolutely recommend The Church House Inn. Lovely building, comfortable rooms, great atmosphere, and a host who goes the extra mile. We will definitely be coming back.
Just enjoyed a week in our caravan at Church House Inn. Owner Mark is friendly and very accommodating. (He even helped us take our awning down in the wind and rain as Storm Amy hit!) He can usually be found on site and is more than happy to stop for a chat. Ideal site to strike out from for sightseeing. Pub across the road is friendly and has good food and real ale. Would definitely recommend this site and hope to come back in the future đ
Stayed here a couple of times now, Booked the family room. Lovely rooms comfy beds. clean and tidy. Mark the owner is wonderful. Extremely welcoming and friendly.
Would recommend this place to anyone canât wait to stay again
The restaurant was reasonably busy but the staff were completely on top of the service. We didn’t have to wait to place any of our orders. The food was good and plentiful, even the kids meals and there was a good selection of local ales, ciders and wines and the staff were able recommend a good pint.
I ordered the Lamb Henry and it was succulent and tender, with mash. We mentioned in the booking that we had a birthday in our group and the table came with a helium balloon with “happy birthday” written on it, which was a nice touch.
We stayed at the Church House Inn in our little Transit van for 4 nights at the beginning of June 25.
A lovely location, with 5 hard standing pitches, 2 loo’s and a shower, water, electric and recycling, for ÂŁ25 a night.
Although the Inn is no longer open for food, the pub opposite is and we ate there twice, as well as had sandwiches made for our walk up “old man Coniston ” in the morning from the shop next to the pub, but you need to order at 8.30am.
Excellent base for lots of walks, including to the Jetty at Torver, walna scar and the old man, we also paddled Lake Coniston.
Mark was lovely and helpful and runs it on his own, so although it needed abit of TLC it had character that we liked, the shower was hot and had a heated towel rail and the site was nice and quiet and the perfect base.
