I had a wonderful experience at Northumberland Wellness Retreat & Spa in Cobourg. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was calm, welcoming, and deeply relaxing. The staff were professional, kind, and clearly passionate about wellness.
The treatments were exceptional — thoughtfully delivered, unhurried, and genuinely restorative. I especially appreciated the holistic approach and attention to detail, which made the experience feel personalized rather than rushed or routine. I did the Ayurvedic treatments
The space itself is serene and beautifully maintained, making it easy to fully disconnect and recharge. I left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and well cared for — both physically and mentally.
I highly recommend Northumberland Wellness Retreat & Spa to anyone looking for high-quality wellness treatments and a peaceful escape. I will definitely be returning
We recently planned a couples retreat for my wife and some friends of ours, and our experience was probably, by far, the worst customer service I have ever dealt with, bar none.
We had booked massages and rooms for a night (which we were charged upfront for), and everything initially went smoothly. Then, two days later, we get a call back stating that, suddenly, we could not be accommodated because there was a member of our party whom someone from their staff, it turns out, had history with and was not going to be comfortable interacting with. When pressed for additional details, they would not explain the situation further and flat out cancelled our planned getaway. When I demanded a refund for all of us, we were told they don’t give refunds.
Needless to say, this was completely amateurish and unprofessional. And as far as the person on staff who was going to have a problem with the member of our party, whom I might add they didn’t identify, excuse me? What kind of person is so petty that they can’t put their past aside with a person and keep things professional? After discussing it with our friends, none of us could come up with a reasonable explanation for this, as none of us had any past relationships with anybody where there were issues of safety or otherwise domestic problems that would warrant such a response.
I could understand if this person’s past with one of our party was due to domestic violence or similar, but this is most definitely not the case with anyone from our party. We’ve all known each other for many years, and are all familiar with each other’s past relationships / significant others and there was never any such situation. And without any further explanation from Northumberland Heights, it only compounded the mystery.
In any event, this was a poor response from Northumberland Heights, and their refusal to return our payment for services not rendered has left us with no choice but to pursue legal recourse against them. We have turned the matter over to our lawyer, who will be demanding a full explanation, investigation into the matter and recompense.
Stayed overnight and had a great time with girlfriends during the winter season.
Surroundings – We enjoyed the peace and quiet during low season.
Service – friendly service all around from check-in, dining room and our masseuse.
Spa – had an amazing scrub. We all enjoyed our treatments. And got good use of the sauna, steam room, and outdoor hot tub.
Food – abundant and very good for the most part.
This place certainly has the potential to be 5 stars but there were a few things that could be improved on for a true high end spa experience:
Food – for example, the croissant sandwich at afternoon tea used processed cheese. Waffles at breakfast weren’t homemade, they were like the ones from Costco in the bread section. Afternoon tea used tea bags. 2 people shared one large pot with 1 tea bag if they ordered the same flavour.
Front desk – sometimes we had questions but no one was there. Didn’t know how to contact them so just waited. Perhaps there should be a bell?
Spa – no Q-tips or body lotion. Ran out of towels.
But I will certainly go again!
We had a wonderful 4 days and 3 nights at Northumberland. To be honest, we were treated with genuine kindness and hospitality by every single staff member. It was truly a great escape from the concrete jungle and all the hustle and bustle.
Although the weather wasn’t the best, it didn’t stop us from exploring the trails. And the hot tub—absolutely a must-try. Guilty to say, we used it every single night.
The Abhyanga massage was phenomenal. The therapists are incredibly skilled; you get “mashed and beaten” for a full hour—in the best way possible. Believe me, you’ll feel like a whole new person the next day.
A big shoutout to Mona and all the staff at Northumberland for making every moment feel like home. I’ll definitely bring my family back for another stay.
I recently enjoyed an outstanding massage and facial at Northumberland Heights Wellness Retreat & Spa in Cobourg. Andrea was amazing, she was very attentive, and answered my many questions about my skincare routine. The massage was a relaxing and rejuvenating experience from start to finish. The ambiance was tranquil, and both treatments exceeded my expectations, leaving me feeling refreshed and pampered.
In addition to the outstanding massage and facial, my husband arranged a surprise birthday party for me with 60 friends in attendance and Mona and the staff made it truly unforgettable. They were attentive, accommodating, and helped ensure every detail was perfect, making the celebration so memorable and special. The food was absolutely wonderful. We had dinner the night of the party as well as breakfast twice and a delicious dinner, we wanted to try all of the menu options and shared a few options since we couldn’t decide!
The combination of the relaxing spa treatments and the beautifully organized event exceeded all of our expectations. I highly recommend this inn and spa in Cobourg for both spa services and special occasions. Hopefully Mona will be able to fit us in for a visit in the next few months.
