Good information provided in advance, really welcoming on arrival and a lovely classic stately home to spend the night in. Large rooms with interesting antique furniture and fittings make for a visually interesting stay. Amazing that a WWII code breaking veteran lived here.
Good breakfast and overall pretty good value.
Would stay again and would certainly recommend 🙂

Our stay at Budle Hall in Bamburgh was, without question, my favorite place of our entire trip. From the moment we arrived and were greeted with a welcome tea, we knew we were in for something truly special. Celia and Ralph made us feel right at home in their gracious estate, a gorgeous manor house with such fascinating history.

One of the highlights was our tour with Celia, as she shared captivating stories about the home’s past. And yes — there’s even a secret garden, just waiting to be discovered, that feels like stepping into another world.

Celia went above and beyond to ensure every detail of our stay was exceptional. Our room was enormous, with a bed so comfortable it was hard to leave in the morning. And breakfast? Absolutely fabulous — the perfect start to each day.

Budle Hall is not just a place to stay, it’s an experience — warm, elegant, and unforgettable.

Budle Hall B&B offers a truly delightful and unique stay that feels less like a traditional bed and breakfast and more like a visit to a grand stately home. The sheer scale and beauty of the property are its biggest selling points. The communal areas – including a lovely drawing room, an impressive library, and the presence of two pianos – add a layer of luxury and historical charm.

The Highs: Grandeur and Warm Hospitality
From the moment we arrived, the experience was set on a high note with a warm welcome that included tea and biscuits upon arrival. This personal touch was much appreciated after our journey. The breakfast was another standout feature: freshly cooked and utterly lovely, providing a perfect start to the day. The entire hall is beautifully maintained, offering a genuinely lovely atmosphere that immerses you in a sense of history and quiet elegance.

Room for Improvement: Comfort and Security
While the overall experience was excellent, there were a couple of minor points that kept this from being a five-star review.

The sofa in our room was a disappointingly uncomfortable. It was clearly past its prime and badly needed replacing. It was impossible to sit on comfortably.
The biggest drawback for us, however, was the security arrangement. There is a latch lock on the door for when you are inside the room, which provides privacy at night. However, there are no keys to lock the room when you go out. While the atmosphere encourages a trusting environment, the absence of a key lock made us feel uneasy about leaving our belongings, requiring a degree of trust in fellow guests that isn’t ideal when traveling. Providing guests with the ability to secure their private space is a fundamental expectation of any paid accommodation.

    The Verdict
Despite the issues with the sofa and the lack of a proper key lock, Budle Hall B&B is a wonderful place to stay. The grandeur of the building, the excellent breakfast, and the superb communal spaces far outweigh the minor negatives. It’s an experience we’d recommend for anyone looking for a stay with real character and history – just be prepared for the no-key policy and perhaps avoid the sofa!

A Wonderful Stay at Budle Hall, Northumberland

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Budle Hall, a beautiful and historic manor home tucked just off the coast in Northumberland. It’s the sort of place that instantly makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, in the best way. The house is very traditional, old school charm at its finest, yet immaculately kept. With around five to seven large double bedrooms and generous bathrooms, there was more than enough space for our group of three families.

Our hosts, Ralph and Celia were absolute gems. They have have been looking after Budle Hall for decades and know every corner of the place. Ralph has written a small book on its history. From the moment we arrived, he made us feel at home. He was incredibly accommodating, happy to help with any request, and full of brilliant advice about local attractions, and even taking us on a tour of the farm to see the piglets. The kids loved this.

One of the highlights for the kids was the fire to toast marshmallows Ralph made specially for them. They were thrilled. There’s a lovely little swing in the garden hanging from a tree, and they spent hours running around outside with the chickens. The grounds are peaceful and scenic, perfect for soaking in the fresh coastal air.

Breakfasts at Budle Hall were spot on. Ralph and Celia offer a full bed and breakfast experience, and we could choose whatever we fancied each morning. Liz was a star chef. Everything was delicious and freshly made. For dinner, we sorted ourselves. One night we grabbed some fantastic pizzas, and the next night we had fish and chips that were honestly some of the best I’ve had in the UK.

You can book a single room for a short stay, or like us, you can take the whole place, which worked brilliantly for our group. Budle Hall strikes that rare balance of feeling grand yet relaxed, historic yet homely. The location is a perfect base for exploring the Northumberland coast.

I genuinely can’t recommend it highly enough. Whether you’re travelling as a couple, a family, or a bigger group, this is a stay that sticks with you.
